So I’m listening to NPR’s All Things Considered on the way home, and the top story is Pres. Bush’s forthcoming speech on immigration reform. In coverage of the Senate, which has returned to the issue, I hear the following quote from Senator John Cornyn (Tex-R):
“Now there’s something, it seems to me fundamentally unfair about line-jumping, about breaking in line. And many have expressed concerns, and I’m one of those who have had the concerns about rewarding people for line-jumping.”
Really? Did I just hear a US Senator argue, “No cuts, no buts, no coconuts?”
Having kinfolk from down in yonder parts, I really think that what the Senator was making a joke at the expense of their hated neighbors to their north. What were Oklahomians but line-jumpers and cutters? Heck, they’re so proud of it they still call themselves Sooners. One thing no Texan can stand, it’s one of them thar high falutin’ line-jumpers trying to get an upper hand on them. Not that they could do it none nohow, but don’t you never try it, ya hear?

I believe the response from the opposition was, “I’m rubber and you’re glue. It bounces off me and sticks to you.”
