Really, I think that most Americans would not ever associate any Frenchman with violence. A more accurate description of the “typical American” view would be Zidane waving a white flag and it accidentally hitting the Italian. Then Zidane wets himself and runs in fear.
Personally I don’t understand the “typical” American view on the French or where it comes from, but that’s why we have Freedom Fries now…

I think it’s more a comment of the rampant “simulation” that plagued the World Cup. Players collapsing as if they’d been shot with machine gun.
