Thanksgiving 2006: For Kerri

Will started it, and it looks like Bob it picking up on the theme, too. I’m happy to be on this bandwagon…

I’m thankful for Kerri. It might be a bit cliché to start with one’s wife, but I’m doing it. Will and Bob did the same. Sue us. We’ve got great wives. (Perhaps you should thank them, because I’m willing to bet none of us would be half the man we are if it weren’t for them.)

Kerri and I have been married nearly a decade; we were “steady” for another five or so years before that. She’s my best friend, by confidant, my audience, my lover (shhh! don’t tell our parents), and my strength on so many feeble days. Together we’ve graduated (a couple times each), welcomed children, bid farewell to a loved one, bought a home, traveled, laughed, fought (a little), cried (ok, I came really close…), risked, dreamed, failed, wondered and silently held one another.

In some ways I’m your typical male, oblivious to many of the subtleties that go into relationships. With Kerri, however, the briefest touch lingers. A glance lasts for days.

So, I begin my list here… with Kerri.

There but for the grace of you go I

  1. Baldman,

You are corny and sappy and an embarrassment to the male society. If there is not some sort of big screen TV or tickets to some event where blood is spattered, you may lose your man license. You should know that even though we love our wives, we don’t tell them publicly else they use that knowledge against us at some time in the future. Do you not remember the whiteboard vs. filing cabnet analogy? Have you lost your mind man?

Honestly, it is great to see a relationship which has been together for so long and still going that strong. You are very lucky to have Kerri (Must be something with the name). I hope though that this is the first in an installment for I’d hate for you to overlook the three wonderful children you have. You have been blessed with a wonderful family, for which I hope you are thankful every day. It is easy to overlook those people we see every day when it comes to those things for which we say thanks, especially when they are full of snot and crying (Again, I’m speaking of the kids and not your wife).

Maybe I’ll have to carry on this trend on my site. I hear there are three football games on Thursday this year. I figure spending the day missing 3 games and spending time with her family should be worth some good time hanging with the guys. Hmmm….

  2. Kerri,
    The pleasure is mine.

    rantz,
While I might be the typical male in regard to interpersonal subtleties, I’m a lost cause in many other areas. The gender is free to disown me at will.

As far as this being a series…
