Busy Days

(I realized I don’t do much in the way of personal posting here. Not sure why; not sure if this is a new trend of a one off.)

To Do Board

So, I just got through a work deadline, only to run smack into my parent’s relocation. I feel busy just thinking about everything they’ve had going on since the new year…

  • Be offered a new position in the Dayton area
  • Negotiate the compensation package that will accompany the aforementioned position
  • Accept said new position
  • Put old house on market
  • Begin search for new house
  • Make offer on new house
  • Get competing offers on old house
  • Close on old house
  • Close on new house
  • Clean new house
  • Move one 24′ U-Haul up to Dayton with plants and sundry shop stuff
  • Continue packing, and cleaning old house in preparation for movers
  • One last run through before turning over keys for good and bidding farewell to Georgia
  • Arrive in Dayton; tend to plants; direct movers; begin settling in

Mind you, my dad is still working pretty much full time through it all… traveling between Dayton and Georgia for events, with random luxuries like exotic trips to Buffalo (or Syracuse or some other upstate town that was buried under snow.)

24 Hours

I made whirl wind trip down last week to help them back that U-Haul, drive it and one of there cars up, and unload everything. (Many thanks to the fine gentlemen who helped out; Mom and dad were truly stunned when the truck was empty by 11am!) That was in the midst of the Boooggaa outbreak of 2007. Three cheers for Kerri, who wrangled the squirrels while battling a sinus infection of her own!

I did manage to finish another book, only I’m two behind in my reviews, and this latest one will probably be a multi-parter. I’m also three behind in movies – four if you count the one sitting on the mantle yet to be viewed. Plus a half dozen or so miscellaneous thoughts.

My only saving grace is that I finally answered Rantz’s last question! Though it appears he, too, has been busy. That or I thoroughly answered his question and all its derivatives… or I thoroughly made a mish of it all that he’s choosing to give the whole thing a miss. (And, where did Sean, Norm, Ian, and Brother Tadhg go? A tornado of comments and now the doldrums…)

Moving Fast #1

At any rate, this was a personal post, so I’ll wrap it up. Off to bed, where I will read and continue digging this blogging hole I find myself in.

  1. Good to see a personal post now and again. You are correct I am sort of busy and I want to make sure I give your post about my question the attention it deserves, so I’m holding off on that one for a bit. Should have called me to help unload the U-Haul. I might have helped.

I do like that picture of the to-do list. With spring comes the need to get artsy again. If only I was any good at it.

  2. Doug!
Thanks for making the jump from Kerri’s pad. Just seeing all the plants scattered around the yard makes it feel like my parent’s home… despite the fact that the inside in still mostly empty.

The header image is just a slice of something I found on Flickr. I wanted something green for St. Patty’s Day.

    Rantz,
I think the Flickr title for the photo is “The Most Beautiful To Do List Ever” or something. With the baby coming and your work schedule as of late, it didn’t even occur to me to ask. If they need help again next month, I’ll be sure to come calling.
