Actually, I was wondering what the total fanbase of the MLS was compared to some of the other “popular” sports in the US, like NHL or NBA or PGA. Anyone know?

I don’t know about the popularity of MLS compared to most other US sports, but compared to most other countries, attendance of MLS games is comparable to many leagues around the world. The real differences, I think, are TV viewership and the the crowded US sports landscape.
